From racial and sexist inequality to financial pay differences Wale brings light to how strong a black woman in America really is. Wale articulates his whirlpool of burdens while still shouting to his listeners that among the chaos in his head he’s still for “ The People“. “Sue Me” takes you through his nights out at Hollywood Club Bootsy Bellows, issues with his parents relationship, struggles with staying true to one woman, being away from his daughter while on tour and spending copious amounts of money on his fashion addiction. Wale stays true to his womanizing narrative and struggles with himself in his music but with this album touches on the oppression and undertone of black people in America. Before we review his music, let’s take a look at the relevance of the release date and title. To understand Wale’s music though, attentiveness and comprehension are something that you have to apply when listening (which we know is not a common attribute to the pill-popping ADHD embracing youths of today). With new era rap focusing on trap beats and ass shaking, it makes sense that an artist whose lyrics and flows are more similar to spoken word, emotional poetry and confident bravado are misunderstood. But lets get a little Reckless and break down these Shenanigans that Wale is dropping. Many took it for a mediocre rendition of Wale’s past albums. From the release date, to the title, and even the musical content, a lot of rap fans failed to realize the genius behind this project. Even with a #1 hit single “On Chill”, this soulful project seemed to shoowsh pass most heads though. His most recent album Wow…That’s Crazy released about 9 months ago on October 11, 2019. Since then Wale has released 5 studio albums, been featured on many mainstream hits and is part of the notorious MMG collective, that is most notably Ricky Rose, Meek Mill and the eccentric rapper himself, Wale. Wale has been in the game since his first major album, Attention Deficit released in 2009. Well the 4x Platinum Recording music artist is not only misunderstood by people who don’t know him, he is misunderstood, underrated and underappreciated by a good amount of people intertwined in hip-hop culture.
If you’re not a fan of Wale or don’t even have the slightest clue as to who this guy is, these words can be off putting or even misunderstood. If you’re a fan of Wale, there should be no surprise when you hear these words.
